I had a great time with my nephew Noah. We skied at Stevens Pass, WA and surfed in Oahu, HI (December 26 to January 5th). Noah AKA “lil fella” or “Peepers” had many adventures.
He braved a fierce chest and head cold. Learned how to snowboard. Learned how to surf. Learned how to kill zombies and watch me shutter in frustration while trying to play along side him. In Hawaii, we listened to Garrison Keillor and a lot of 80’s songs. Did you know Madonna is still huge in Oahu? We heard dozens of her songs being played everywhere.
We jumped under 12 foot waves, over 5 foot waves, and snorkeled next to 15 foot waves, pushed back and forth with the current, but the water remained crystal clear no matter the circumstance.
We discussed science, the art of story telling, the translation of personal creativity into the marketplace and that we one day need to send some skits to SNL. We had a few interesting ideas brewing while on the trip.
We ate good food, although lil fella ate like a bird. I believe he only pooped once since he barely ate 800 calories daily–and whatever food he did eat–converted almost entirely to pure energy.
We had a good time and wish I was still there, although I know Noah was missing his family.
I am grateful for the time we shared.

Since my days in college when I read Plato's Analogy of the Cave, I've been a disciple of Socrates and attempted to live by his motto: "The unexamined Life is not worth Living". This philosophy has moved me through a spectrum of scientific and spiritual interests, two topics most believe are at odds, but for me a paradox worth examining. The bounty of natural beauty, human pleasures, diversity in people & ideas, music, sports, last but not least travel, all make this journey worth living. I am a hippie traveler looking for truth wherever that may lead...and so the story continues.
