Rogue River 2013

White Water Rafting Adventure

November 142013

The Rogue River is located in southwestern Oregon and flows 215 miles from Crater Lake to the Pacific Ocean. The 84 mile, Congressionally designated “National Wild and Scenic” portion of the Rogue begins 7 miles west of Grants Pass and ends 11 miles east of Gold Beach.

Our adventure started at Argo, and we got out of the river at Foster Bar (see map above).

We saw 6 black bears, one in our camp and many bear scat in several camp sites. Overall, it was a good time and learned a lot about Oar rafting in a very compressed time.

Yosemite 2010

My Yosemite trip with Kai and Noah is one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. We saw bears, rattlesnakes, and elk. We camped, hiked, swam and rode bikes in one of the most beautiful places on earth: Yosemite Valley. We also spent time in Seattle playing volley ball, visiting parks, playing golf and eating at some of my favorite places. Time with my nephews is precious, and I am so thankful that their parents entrusted them to me.

Hawaii 2011
November 132013

Hawaii brought warm sun, clear water, stellar waves and a welcome reprieve from a never-ending Seattle winter.  Our friend CK supplied buddy-passes for our Oahu trip, March 1st to March 8th, and we were able to get on standby to Oahu with no problems. Returning was a different story but well worth the extra two nights and one full day of surfing that we endured. This was a great trip, and we will be back sometime in the future.

I had a great time with my nephew Noah. We skied at Stevens Pass, WA and surfed in Oahu, HI (December 26 to January 5th). Noah AKA “lil fella” or “Peepers” had many adventures.

He braved a fierce chest and head cold. Learned how to snowboard. Learned how to surf. Learned how to kill zombies and watch me shutter in frustration while trying to play along side him. In Hawaii, we listened to Garrison Keillor and a lot of 80’s songs. Did you know Madonna is still huge in Oahu? We heard dozens of her songs being played everywhere.

We jumped under 12 foot waves, over 5 foot waves, and snorkeled next to 15 foot waves, pushed back and forth with the current, but the water remained crystal clear no matter the circumstance.

We discussed science, the art of story telling, the translation of personal creativity into the marketplace and that we one day need to send some skits to SNL. We had a few interesting ideas brewing while on the trip.

We ate good food, although lil fella ate like a bird. I believe he only pooped once since he barely ate 800 calories daily–and whatever food he did eat–converted almost entirely to pure energy.

We had a good time and wish I was still there, although I know Noah was missing his family.

I am grateful for the time we shared.
